Power Pilates System Training At Studio Lotus: An Overview
We recognize that many people wish to become certified to teach Pilates on the apparatus, but do not have the ability to commit to the Comprehensive Certification program involving a 600-hour/6-month apprenticeship. Power Pilates System Training was created to provide those individuals with a viable alternative – without compromising the integrity of the training program.
Power Pilates System Training enables a certification candidate to receive the same classical Pilates education that our Comprehensive Certification program provides, while making the time commitment more manageable and more flexible by dividing the curriculum into three levels:
- System Training Level 1: Beginner/Intermediate System
- System Training Level 2: Intermediate System
- System Training Level 3: Advanced System
Each System Training takes between 6-8 weeks to complete from start to finish, and involves a combination of weekend intensives and self-study. The time commitment varies according to the level, but ranges between 3-4 weekends of training, together with 12-16 hours per week of self-study. During weekend intensives, you will learn the Pilates exercises within that system, complete practice drills and have hands-on teaching experience. Self-study complements this training and involves reviewing what you learned during the weekend intensives, practice teaching and refining your teaching skills.
Each individual level of System Training is a complete certification program in itself. You may complete one level, two levels or all three, with each level resulting in a separate certification. Successfully completing a single System Training certifies you to teach clients at that particular level. You can choose how many certification programs you wish to complete, as well as the length of time you take between completing them. In this way, System Training’s program requirements are conducive to fitting into your schedule, whereas Comprehensive Certification involves fitting your schedule into the program’s requirements. Ideal System Training candidates would include those maintaining a full-time job while getting certified and those balancing certification with other full-time pursuits (i.e. motherhood, professional dance, etc.).
Besides greater flexibility, System Training’s other advantage is the structure of its curriculum.
Rather than teaching you all the Pilates exercises of a single apparatus, Power Pilates System Training teaches you to use all the apparatus to a single level.
This structure is different from other comparable Pilates certification programs that divide the curriculum by apparatus (i.e. Reformer certification, Cadillac certification, etc.). By certifying you to teach a variety of exercises on a variety of apparatus at a particular level, Power Pilates System Training allows you to teach clients in a classical, systematic, integrated style – the way Pilates was truly intended to be taught. Learning to teach on only one Pilates apparatus would be similar to a carpenter learning to use only one tool. Good carpenters need the ability to skillfully use all their tools to be effective; the same is true for good Pilates instructors. If you only know how to use a hammer, then everything begins to look like a nail.
By getting certified to teach Pilates on the apparatus in three stages through a combination of weekend intensives and self-study, Power Pilates System Training provides a flexible alternative to Comprehensive Certification, while upholding the integrity of classical Pilates.
