Power Pilates Beginner Mat Certification at Studio Lotus
The exercises that make up the Beginner Mat are the most fundamental and, in the words of Joseph Pilates, are the very ‘heart and soul’ of the method. Beginner Mat is Pilates in its purest form: just you and a mat. Power Pilates Beginner Mat Training, therefore, is the foundation of all other Power Pilates teacher training programs; every higher-level program builds upon the information learned during this course.
During this 16-hour program, you will learn the 18 exercises that make up Beginner Mat. This will include learning the ideal version of each exercise, the appropriate modifications, and the transitions between those exercises.
Power Pilates Beginner Mat, however, moves beyond a simple review of these exercises. You will not only learn the foundation of the technique itself, but you will also learn the foundation of how to teach that technique in the most effective way. Beginner Mat Certification is truly a teacher training program. Very simply, our goal during this weekend is to teach you how to teach a Beginner Mat class by introducing you to the Power Pilates Teaching Tools, while deepening your understanding of the Beginner Mat exercises. Just as the basic principles of the Beginner Mat technique will support you to the highest level of technical achievement, the basic principles of teaching will carry you forward to the highest level of teaching achievement.
Program Objectives:
- Learn the Beginner mat exercises and the principles behind them.
- Review anatomy as it relates to Pilates.
- Learn how to teach a 60-minute Beginner Mat Class, with appropriate modifications and variations for advancement.
- Become better skilled at applying the Power Pilates trademark teaching formula.
- Strengthen communication skills necessary to inspire clients and teach Pilates effectively.
Pre-Requisites:
- Attend a minimum of 10-15 classical Pilates mat classes taught by a certified instructor prior to the certification weekend. We strongly recommend taking these classes at a Studio Lotus location, a Power Pilates studio and/or from a certified Power Pilates instructor. If you complete your sessions elsewhere, please make sure that the mat classes you are taking are ‘classical’ in nature. Classical or ‘authentic’ pertains to the name, movement and order of the exercises being taught, along with the vocabulary used to teach them.
- Read Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 6 of Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain (1985, Eastland Press, Inc.).
Requirements:
- Attend all 16 hours of weekend training according to the following schedule:
Friday: 4pm – 8pm
Saturday: 1pm – 7pm
Sunday: 9am – 3pm
Once you have completed and passed the Power Pilates Beginner Mat Certification, you will be certified to teach a Beginner Pilates mat class. If you do not pass immediately after the weekend, you will have the opportunity to re-test within three months of the course; one re-test is included in the cost of the program.
